About Fodongo

Fodongo is a Free Culture, Indie Comics zine project edited and put together by Emiliano Carrasco “Jectoons” for Jectoons.net.

The aim of the project is two-fold: to support independent comic artists and to advocate for and normalize the free sharing of culture, in the form of comics.

Here’s how it works

  1. I commission 3-4 artists every month to make a 3-page, black and white comic licensed under a Free Culture License (they can choose CC0WTFPLCC-BYCC-BY-SA or the Free Art License). It is important to clarify that authors retain the rights and creative control over their work (the caveat being the license they use): I just commission it and put it together in the zine (using Scribus);
  2. The zine goes up for sale ($3CAD per issue) on this website, and the revenue is divided in half: 50% goes back into the zine in order to commission more artists for future issues and take care of other expenses; and 50% is distributed among the artists that contributed to that issue.
  3. Over the course of 8 weeks the issue’s comics will be published on this website (a comic every two weeks), and then the issue’s .pdf will be uploaded to the Internet Archive for everyone to read. Author’s are free to post, compile and distribute their work as much as they want, of course, though preferably after the zine is out and their comic posted on this site.
  4. Repeat as long as we can.

Any inquiries can be directed to fodongo@jectoons.net. At the moment I am not requesting applications, but I hope to do so in the future.

Fodongo has a no-refund policy. If for any reason you are unhappy with a purchase please reach out to the above email and we can figure something out.

This is a reader-supported publication. Thanks for being here.

The zine’s guidelines

Anti-hate. Anti-racism. Pro-LGBTQIA+. No AI. Political and religious stuff is ok as long as it does not proselytize.

Comic themes can be as varied as each author wants. Genres can be whatever they want as well. Just keep stuff in the G, PG and PG-13 areas (i.e. some violence is ok, but gore would be pushing it. You can look at this list of PG-13 movies to see more or less what would work. Of course, it isn’t perfect, but it illustrates the idea).

Comics in any language are encouraged, though an English translation is required too.

About Free Culture

Free Culture refers to cultural works that have been “freed” by their authors, so that those who experience the works can participate in them.

In order to do this we use Licenses other people and organizations have come up with, so that sharing cultural works does not infringe copyright law (which can be incredibly restrictive; not only for those trying to learn from a work, but also for those trying to enjoy the work as an audience, and even for the creators themselves!).

In broad strokes (please refer to the back of each zine and to each comic to see what licenses are being used), this means that you as the reader of the work may adapt it, translate it, remix it, build upon it, reference it and share it. And yes, that includes commercial uses too.

Just make sure to read the license’s conditions carefully and give credit appropriately.
